Quitting Your Day Job

Building a business while keeping your job.

Hi Creadora!

Let’s talk about mindset—the most important (yet often overlooked) tool for building your dream business.

When we started Creadora, we were all working full-time jobs. We had all the enthusiasm in the world and couldn’t wait to help our own clients and get our dream off the ground. But deep down, we were scared. Scared of losing our current positions, scared of financial instability, and scared of failure.

We had to make some major mindset shifts to create the space—both in hours and in mental energy—to bring Creadora to life. We realized that while our website said “open for business,” if our time and attention were still fully invested in our other jobs, it was going to be harder for that dream to come to fruition.

The hard truth? You don’t have to quit your job right away to start your business, but you do need a plan for how you’ll transition and allocate the necessary time to grow your dream. Without a solid plan and the right mindset, your business will struggle to get the attention it needs.

Here are a few mindset shifts that helped us and can help you too:

1. Create Space in Your Life for Your Dream

If you’re spending 100% of your mental energy and hours on something else, how will your business grow? You need to intentionally carve out time—whether it’s early mornings, late evenings, or weekends—to build your business.

Even if you’re not ready to quit your job yet, make sure you’re actively prioritizing your dream. Set boundaries around your time and energy to allow for the hours it will take to grow your new venture.

2. Have a Transition Plan

Don’t wait until you’re overwhelmed or burned out to figure out your next steps. Map out how you will transition from your current position into your business full time. How many clients do you need before you feel comfortable making the leap? How many hours per week will you devote to your business?

A clear plan will not only reduce your stress, but it will also give you a roadmap to follow as you grow your business.

3. Ask for Help

Here’s one of the biggest lessons we’ve learned: You don’t have to do it all on your own. If you have the resources, hiring someone to take tasks off your plate can fast-track your progress. Whether it’s outsourcing graphic design, hiring a virtual assistant, or bringing on a marketing expert, getting help can allow you to focus on the big picture and accelerate your transition.
